4TB Server Backup

I bought this external 4TB drive for £90 to backup the server. This one is an enclosed 3.5" drive, which was only marginally cheaper than a pocket-sized portable 2.5" version. 

So why not the smaller model?

It turns out I already bought the smaller model (although the 2TB not 4). It works nicely, but is slower. Both drives are USB 3.0, but in tests the pocket drive had slower write performance.

Perhaps this is something to do with the pocket drives being powered by USB whereas these larger ones require an external power supply.
